Carl Macek died over the weekend. He was one of the great mashup artists. He introduced a lot of people in the Western world to anime. He took 3 separate series about transforming robots and love triangles and somehow yoked them together into one unified story about transforming robot love triangles. Since I spent most of last summer blogging here about Robotech, I wanted to acknowledge his passing. I like to think that, aside from the making- a-buck and audacious-exploitation side of it, he created Robotech because he was actually crazy.
